Chase the Slut

I have watched House off and on for years so I cannot claim to be an expert on the show, but I do like it! Therefore, if any of my facts are incorrect, my apologies.

For those of you unfamiliar with the show, Dr. House is a diagnostician and heads a team of fellow doctors who attempt to cure the mysterious causes of various illnesses for patients. The show has been on for 8 years.

One of Dr. House’s colleagues is Dr. Robert Chase. He is an Australian pretty boy who has been married on the show and has had various love interests throughout the years. Dr. Chase has had multiple one-night stands and is sexually promiscuous.¬†On Monday night’s episode, his most recent sexual encounter is with a patient. Did I mention she’s also a nun-to-be. What?!?

I find this funny, as I am sure it is meant to be.

What is more intriguing is that Dr. House, Dr. Chase’s mentor, calls him a “slut”. In our society, few men are called sluts, but I thought it was – almost progressive – for the writers to deem Dr. Chase a slut. Not that it’s usually an aspiration for anyone to be called a slut, but he has been with multiple women for one night stands so this title fits. His coworkers tell him that he is a commitment-phobe, which is pretty much true.

Next Dr. Chase tells Moira, the nun-to-be, that he is in love with her and wants to go to Mexico with her. Unfortunately for Chase, she is committed to her path. He is unhappy at the end of the episode, leaving us to wonder if he will continue to be a womanizer, or will he reform?

It is stereotypical for a woman to fall for a guy she can’t have and then go crazy dropping the “love” word the day after having sex. It isn’t love, it’s oxytocin! Breaking the gender moulds – go House!
